Common Questions |
|
|
Thinking of attending a worship service at New Life, but not sure what to expect? We realize that visiting a new church can be a little intimidating, so we'd like to answer some common questions.
How do I get to New Life?
Easy access from I-90 is found by taking Exit 289 Pines Rd. / Opportunity and heading south on Pines. New Life is located on the NE Corner of Broadway and Bowdish Rd., in the Valley, at 11515 E Broadway Ave! Click this link for directions and a map.
Will I have to stand up in front of people?
Most churches have figured out that if they call on their visitors to stand up during the service and introduce themselves, that you might as well just show them to the door! It’s a bit awkward to say the least! So while the people at New Life are genuinely interested in getting to know you and want to make you feel welcome, we will never call on you or embarrass you in any way. You can relax and enjoy meeting people at your own pace.
Do I have to dress up?
No, you don't. We encourage people to dress comfortably. For some, that may mean dressing up, but for most it simply means wearing casual clothes. The New Testament simply instructs us to dress modestly and decently, so we don’t burden people unnecessarily by requiring them to dress up in fancy clothes they don’t normally wear just to "go to church." We want everyone to come, be comfortable, and enjoy learning about God together.
What time do your services start?
Sunday School is at 9:30 AM , Morning Worship is at 10:45 AM, Sunday evenings are a valued family time were parents are getting kids ready for a busy week and friends can get together, so we don’t have a formal Sunday night service. During the week there are several adult small group gatherings you can attend as you get more comfortable at New Life and meet new friends! Our Jr. & Sr. High students meet on Wednesday evenings for Break Through. This is at the ’Outlet’ facility located next to Halpin’s Pharmacy on Sprague and Bowdish Rd. Elementary age boys and girls can attend Rangers or GIRLS on Wednesdays at 7PM as well. These clubs meet at the main church campus on Broadway and Bowdish. Nursery is available on both Sunday mornings and Wednesday nights for children ages newborn to 3 years at no cost!
Where will my children go during the service?
Your children will love New Life! We provide fun, hands-on Bible lessons and activities every Sunday morning designed especially to help them learn the truths of the Bible. We also provide a safe, cozy nursery for infants through 3 yrs of age. Our children's ministry leaders are parents just like you who value every child and treat them with the utmost care and attention. Children ages 4 years to 4th grade are dismissed following worship for a special time of their own called, “KIDZ KORNER!” You can meet them right after service in the foyer area or greet them downstairs if you prefer!
Do I have to be a Member to participate?
At New Life you do not have to be a member to participate in any area of worship! We offer many events and opportunities to the community and encourage participation by all members and non-members.
Membership is important though and we offer sessions twice a year that allow people interested in affiliating with New Life in more significant ways to get plugged in. Called 'New Life 101", these 1 hour group sessions are concise and will help you gain a firm grasp on what New Life is trying to do for God. Check the 2006 'Events Calendar' for the next Membership Session.
What's the preaching like?
At New Life, it is our sincere desire to share God's Word in all its truth without watering anything down, but to do it in love, and in ways that are interesting, engaging and relevant to your daily life. While the Bible certainly does convict us of our sin in order to point out our lost condition, the overarching theme of the entire Bible is God's unconditional love for all humankind, as is shown by God sending His precious Son, Jesus, to pay the price for our sin. If you attend one of our services, you will hear the truths of God's Word presented passionately, clearly, and lovingly in ways that will make sense to you. But why not find out for yourself? Listen online now!
What is your worship like?
Our anointed and talented worship team provides a passionate, contemporary and upbeat style of music. So you will see and hear guitars, keyboards, vocalists and yes,...drums,...even conga's!!!!! Seriously, music is so personal and everyone has a favorite, so you can't please everyone. We're just trying to do what we think blesses God and brings people closer to Him.
We balance our music with skits & vignettes, communion, scripture readings and prayer to help people connect with God in an intimate way. Our music is derived from bands like Hillsong, Paul Baloche, Chris Tomlin, Delirious, Vineyard, Third Day, Matt Redman, and many more. We are a contemporary-styled church, but we value the "old hymns" as well. So again, we strive for our music to be real - a reflection of our hearts for God.
You’ll see people around with their hands up & down, with their eyes open and closed, some are singing loudly while others are just humming along! Some people may come forward to the altar area as an expression of their need for God’s touch or to convey their love for Him!
What kind of church are you?
We are affiliated with the Northwest Ministry Network of the Assemblies of God. The Network covers the state of Washington and North Idaho. We have over 300 sister churches in this region alone. Click on these links to learn more about the Assemblies of God and the NW Ministry Network!
The Assemblies of God operates on a cooperative fellowship basis / relationship... that allows our missions dollars to be used more effectively while still maintaining complete autonomy as a local church. We choose our own pastor, own our own buildings and assets, and determine our own ministries.
