Colossians Ch. 2 - Supremacy of Christ

Saturday, 15 August 2009

Speaker Name:  Aaron Denn   |  Colossians 2
Series:  Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians
Description:
Jesus blatantly states to the religious leaders of his day, “You diligently study the Scriptures because you think that by them you possess eternal life. These are the Scriptures that testify about me, yet you refuse to come to me to have life” (John 5:39). Today we find more and more the many roads and avenues that “lead” to Christ and his gift of eternal life. They are candy-coated beautifully and leave a sense of prideful gain; yet when examined closely lead to a dead end. This morning we interact with Paul exhorting the Colossians, as well as us, to be warned and careful about the things we “eat” as Followers of Christ!

Colossians Ch. 1

Saturday, 08 August 2009

Speaker Name:  Steve Williams   |  Colossians 1
Series:  Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians
Description:
Solomon, considered to be one of the wisest men to ever live says in Ecclesiastes 1:9, “There is nothing new under the sun.” In other words mankind had in his day and has since his time continued to repeat the same sinful practices. Oh sure they’re painted up differently but they are simple retreads. Remember, Satan is not creative but rather corrosive. The OT attacks are, at their core, the same attacks of the NT and the same attacks that we face today! This morning we begin to explore Paul’s expedited letter to the believers in Colossae and in it we see a prime example of this tired but brutal attack on human faith in God, as the Gnostics pull off the first Da Vinci Code assault on Christ’s value!

Philippians Ch.4 - Therefore,…

Saturday, 01 August 2009

Speaker Name:  Steve Williams   |  Philippians 4
Series:  Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians
Description:
The close of Philippians is not unfamiliar to us as modern Westerners. It is full of very personal and pointed comments,___ directives for his friends and spiritual children. To show just how personal he gets, he veritably pleads with co-workers for Christ to resolve their personality differences in a way that properly reflects Christ! Conflict resolution is a tough issue for 80% of us to tackle,___ so let’s get messy today!

Philippians Ch.3

Saturday, 25 July 2009

Speaker Name:  Travis Cox   |  Philippians 3
Series:  Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians

Philippians Ch.2 - Words of Experience

Saturday, 18 July 2009

Speaker Name:  Steve Williams   |  Philippians 2
Series:  Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians
Description:
A few years ago Connie and I attended a friends wedding at a beautiful Columbia Gorge Hotel. One of the grooms clients, a woman in her early 80’s, was invited to offer a blessing over the couple. Turns out she and her husband were both Jews who had survived the Nazi death camps of WWII. Her blessing exuded such a powerful, but gentle influence over the moment that even the dullest wit at the wedding couldn’t miss it. As I recall, children stopped squirming, the birds went quiet and the ever moving wind of the Gorge was stilled. Let’s listen for Him today!

Philippians Ch.1 - Words of a Father

Saturday, 11 July 2009

Speaker Name:  Steve Williams   |  Philippians 1
Series:  Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians
Description:
As we learned last week, Philippians and Ephesians are closely linked. But there is another book, or letter, that is just as connected to these letters, that is the writing of Luke in Acts. Acts includes the introduction of Luke at Troas the immediate course change to Philippi and the introduction of Christ to Europe! This morning I feel compelled to share the depth of this literary connection and the relational connection it reflects. Then we’ll draw some valuable lessons from Phil. 1 for our daily lives!

Philippi - Prote’ of Macedonia

Saturday, 04 July 2009

Speaker Name:  Steve Williams   |  Philippians 1
Series:  Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians
Description:
Today, we break open the letter to Philippi. I need to remind you that Paul is the author, it was written during his first imprisonment in Rome (60-61 AD - See Acts 28:30) and was addressed to relatively new believers who were wrestling to thrive in a very dark spiritual culture! The Philippians had sent a financial gift to Paul as an expression of gratitude and to help him survive while under house arrest in Rome. His friend and co-worker Epaphroditus brought it, served Paul for an extended time and was now preparing to return with this letter and Paul’s deep thanks!

Ephesians Recap

Saturday, 27 June 2009

Speaker Name:  Steve Williams
Series:  Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians
Description:
This morning we are going to do a quick review of Paul’s letter to the Ephesians! It is such an important NT letter and there is so much in it that we felt it necessary to spend the extra Sunday covering it! My personal prayer for you this Sunday is that you’ll walk away with a new perspective on this letter. Moving from passive to personal, from external to internal. In other words that we would all perceive these letters as truly being written to us! Now, remember, this is just one of Paul’s Prison Letters. In the weeks ahead we’ll be examining and exploring both Philippians and Colossians. Their deep links and unique qualities all testify to God’s Spirit working through Paul’s pen to bring life to each of us!

Ephesians Ch. 6

Saturday, 20 June 2009

Speaker Name:  Steve Williams
Series:  Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians
Description:
Paul is nearly finished with his extended discourse on the priority of, power in and posture of ‘unity’. He is down to the nitty gritty of life now; our marriages (the end of last weeks lesson) and now,__ our private family life. His point is that unity must be in operation here if you expect to function in unity at church! That we must know how to exercise unity within our marriages and families as well as the church. This is a “both-and” proposition not an “either—or” exclusive bind. So let’s further explore Paul’s challenge to our home fronts!

Ephesians Ch. 5

Saturday, 13 June 2009

Speaker Name:  Steve Williams   |  Ephesians 5
Series:  Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians
Description:
This Sunday’s lesson is from Ephesians 5 where Paul begins his follow-up to Chapter 4’s thoughts and teachings on unity in the body. The implication is this; if we are to exist in and continually exercise biblical unity, then we must ‘be’ these things. So the items we’ll talk about this morning are items that will allow us to operate in unity! These work all the way down to the family and marriage! Some have even suspected that this is Paul’s low keyed effort at some ‘Beatitudes’. So this morning let’s explore what the key commodities and practices are that we need to live in God’s will, in His unity!
