Series: The Great Chasm Description: While I was a kid a great new game came out called, �Mousetrap!�. It consisted of a typical board game pad under a crazy and convoluted mechanism designed to trap you (the mouse) if you happened to land on the wrong space! It was modeled after some designs created by a guy named Rueben Lucious Goldberg (1883-1970). Goldberg was a serious sculptor, author, engineer, inventor and Pulitzer Prize winner. Some have called him the last true American �Renaissance Man�! However, he was best known as a cartoonist. His sketches amuse us, as he mocks our pursuit of technology. His �machines� always seemed aimed at performing the simplest of functions in the most complicated ways. Like Goldberg, we have tried everything to bridge the chasm between us and God. Our efforts are also curiosities and would be humorous if not for their serious goal.

Series: The Great Chasm Description: Exploration has always been a part of our American experience, we owe our existence to �explorers�! Men like Columbus, Vespucci and Magellan. But despite our heritage we often become content members of the latest equivalent of the �Flat Earth Society� when it comes to our faith. We feel like the we have explored every boundary of spiritual territory. That we have come along way from our first encounter with Christ is undeniable, but maybe a visit back to that desolate and ominous first landscape of our salvation would do us some good. That first impression of heaven seems anything but that! The Great Chasm that once existed between ourselves and God holds significance and renewal for each of us if we�ll make and take the time to take the trip!
